About the rashi calculator

How does this birth chart calculator work?

You enter your date of birth (and optionally time and place). We calculate your sidereal sun sign (rashi) using fixed Vedic date ranges (Lahiri ayanamsa) — Mesh 14 Apr to 14 May, Vrishabh 15 May to 14 Jun, and so on. The result names your rashi, its ruling planet, and the recommended primary ratna.

Is sidereal rashi the same as Western sun sign?

No — Vedic jyotish uses the sidereal zodiac (Lahiri ayanamsa), which is offset by about 24° from the tropical zodiac used in Western astrology. The dates shift by roughly 3-4 weeks. A person born on April 5 is Pisces in Western astrology but Meen/Pisces in Vedic too — but someone born on April 15 is Aries in Western and Mesh in Vedic. For most birth dates the rashi differs from the Western sign.

What if I don't know my birth time?

Birth time and place are optional for this tool — without them we calculate sidereal sun-sign rashi only. For full moon-sign (janma rashi), house placements, and dasha periods, exact birth time is required. Book a free 15-minute WhatsApp consult with our Vedic astrologer for a complete natal chart.

Why does my rashi matter for gemstone selection?

In Vedic jyotish, each rashi is governed by one of the nine grahas (planets). The gemstone aligned with your ruling planet — Manik (Ruby) for Sun, Pukhraj (Yellow Sapphire) for Jupiter, Neelam (Blue Sapphire) for Saturn, and so on — strengthens that planet's beneficial influence in your chart. Wearing the right ratna for your rashi is one of the oldest remedial practices in Indian astrology.

Is this calculator accurate?

For sidereal sun-sign rashi by birth date, yes — the date ranges follow standard Lahiri ayanamsa used by Indian Vedic astrologers. The 24-hour cusp days (when the sun changes signs) can vary by a few hours each year; if you were born on a cusp day and the result feels wrong, book the free WhatsApp consult and our astrologer will verify your chart manually.
