Why wear it
  • Selenite is one of the very few crystals in healing tradition believed to be self-cleansing — it neither stores negativity nor requires water/salt cleansing like other stones.
  • Acts as a charging plate for other crystals: place tumbles, malas or rings on the pyramid base for 6-12 hours to traditionally cleanse and recharge them.
  • High-vibration crown-chakra (sahasrara) stone — used in meditation to clear mental chatter and access higher states of awareness.
  • Placed on the forehead while supine, selenite is traditionally believed to disperse anxious thought patterns and promote dream clarity.
  • The satin-spar pyramid's translucent fibrous structure refracts light into a soft glow when backlit — a calming visual focus for meditation, beyond its metaphysical role.
The Detail

About this piece

The Selenite Pyramid is hand-lapped from Moroccan satin-spar selenite — a translucent fibrous variety of gypsum (CaSO₄·2H₂O, Mohs 2) prized for its silky moonlit lustre. Moroccan deposits in the Atlas Mountains produce the finest commercial satin spar with long, parallel fibres that create the signature "cat's eye" chatoyancy. Our 3-inch piece carries the Giza-replica 51°50' apex. Selenite is named after Selene, the Greek moon goddess, and in crystal-healing tradition it occupies a unique position: it is one of the very few stones believed to cleanse and recharge other crystals without itself needing cleansing. Purpose: cleansing a space and other crystals, crown-chakra meditation, dispelling stagnant energy, dream work. Placement: meditation altar (where it doubles as a charging plate for other stones), bedroom (under pillow for dream clarity), or doorway (to cleanse incoming energy). Energetically lunar, cooling, ultra-high vibration.

How to wear

Place the pyramid on your altar or shelf and lay other crystals (tumbles, jewellery, malas) directly on its base to cleanse them overnight — 6-12 hours is the traditional duration. For personal use, hold the pyramid lightly on the forehead while supine for 5-10 minutes to clear mental overwhelm. Never wash selenite with water — gypsum is water-soluble and will dissolve. Cleanse by passing through smoke (sage or sandalwood) only; recharge under moonlight.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is satin-spar selenite the same as "true" selenite?

Both are gypsum (CaSO₄·2H₂O) mineralogically. "Satin spar" is the fibrous variety with silky lustre (the commercial standard for selenite pyramids and wands); "selenite" sensu stricto is the transparent tabular crystal variety. Most Moroccan material on the market is satin spar. Energetically the metaphysical tradition treats both identically.

Why can't selenite touch water?

Selenite is gypsum — a soft (Mohs 2), water-soluble mineral. Even brief water contact dulls the surface; prolonged contact dissolves it. Always cleanse with smoke only.

Does selenite really cleanse other crystals?

This is a long-standing belief in crystal-healing tradition. There is no laboratory verification. Practically, placing crystals on a selenite plate overnight is a respectful ritual that also helps you mentally "reset" the stones — much of the benefit may be ritual rather than energetic.

How do I use selenite to charge my mala?

After your mala-japa session, lay the mala in a loose coil on the base of the selenite pyramid overnight. Leave it from sunset to sunrise (traditional charging cycle).

Will it dissolve in humid weather?

Selenite is hygroscopic — extended exposure to high humidity can cause surface dulling over years. Store in a dry room and wipe occasionally with a soft, dry cotton cloth.

Can I place selenite under the pillow for dreams?

Yes — a small selenite piece (1-2 inches) traditionally placed inside the pillowcase is believed to enhance dream clarity and lucid-dream recall. For the larger 3-inch pyramid, keep on the bedside table instead. ---
