About this piece
White Sapphire, known in Sanskrit as Sweta Pukhraj or Shukra Ratna, is the colourless variety of corundum (Al2O3) — the same mineral family as Yellow Sapphire and Ruby — with Mohs hardness 9 and refractive index 1.762-1.770. This 2.75 ct stone is sourced from Sri Lankan corundum deposits and is naturally free of colour-causing trace elements (no iron, titanium, or chromium). Ruled by Shukra (Venus), it is the primary stone for Vrishabha (Taurus) and Tula (Libra) rashis and is prescribed as the astrologically equivalent and visually similar alternative to diamond — at approximately one-tenth the cost. GRS-certified as natural untreated, brilliant-cut in the round modified-brilliant style to mimic diamond face-up appearance with maximum scintillation.

Frequently asked
How is White Sapphire astrologically equivalent to Diamond?
Both stones rule Venus (Shukra) per classical Vedic gem texts. Brihat Samhita and Mansagari list Heera (Diamond) as the primary stone and Sweta Pukhraj (White Sapphire) as the recognised primary alternative — not a substitute or upratna, but a fully equivalent ratna. The two share identical planetary indication, identical wearing day, finger and metal protocol. Modern Jyotishis frequently prescribe White Sapphire over Diamond because corundum can be sourced naturally untreated at affordable rates whereas natural untreated diamonds suitable for jyotish are 10x more expensive.
What is the difference between White Sapphire and Diamond optically?
Diamond has a higher refractive index (2.42) and dispersion (0.044), giving stronger fire (rainbow flashes). White Sapphire has RI 1.77 and dispersion 0.018, giving more subtle white-light scintillation. To the untrained eye in mounted jewellery the difference is minimal — White Sapphire passes as diamond in 80 per cent of casual viewing scenarios. Under magnification, diamond shows sharper facet edges. Both have similar hardness (sapphire 9, diamond 10) and excellent daily wearability.
When should I avoid wearing White Sapphire?
Avoid if Venus is a functional malefic in your chart (e.g., for Karka or Simha lagnas where Shukra rules maraka houses), if you have severe kapha-induced reproductive disorders, or during periods of celibacy practice (brahmacharya vrata) as Venus enhances sensual desires. Discontinue if you experience sudden emotional turbulence, sensual restlessness, or financial overspending on luxury within 21 days. Not advisable for very young children below 12 as Venus enhances rajasik tendencies.
What is the substitute stone if White Sapphire is out of budget?
The recognised upratna substitutes for White Sapphire/Diamond are Clear Quartz (Sphatik), Cubic Zirconia (synthetic, not astrologically recommended) and White Zircon (Jarkan). Clear Quartz at 6-8 ct delivers approximately 50 per cent of Sweta Pukhraj's Shukra effect at one-twentieth the cost. White Zircon at 4-5 ct gives around 70 per cent benefit at one-fifth the cost. All must be lab-certified natural and set in white gold or silver. Sphatik starter rings from ₹850.
How does ratti weight differ from carat for white sapphire prescription?
One ratti equals approximately 0.91 carat. Vedic astrologers prescribe Sweta Pukhraj minimum weight as one-twelfth of body weight in kg expressed in ratti — typically 3-5 ratti (2.7-4.5 ct) for adult wear. This 2.75 ct stone equals 3.18 ratti, suitable for body weights up to 38 kg or as an introductory Shukra stone. For stronger remedy at higher body weight, we offer 4-6 ct pieces. Below 2 ratti is considered ornamental rather than astrologically effective. ---
