About this piece
Blue Sapphire, called Neelam or Shani Ratna in Sanskrit, is the cornflower-to-royal-blue variety of corundum (Al2O3) coloured by trace iron and titanium, with Mohs hardness 9 and refractive index 1.762-1.770. This 3.50 ct stone originates from the historic Elahera and Ratnapura mines of Sri Lanka — the most astrologically efficacious Neelam source per classical texts. Ruled by Shani (Saturn), it is the primary remedial stone for Makar (Capricorn) and Kumbh (Aquarius) rashis. The stone is GRS-certified as unheated with no clarity enhancement, displaying its natural medium-deep blue hue. CRITICAL: Neelam is the fastest-acting and most volatile of the Navratna stones — Brihat Parashara explicitly mandates a 3-day trial test under pillow before fixed wear, and we will only ship this piece after written astrologer consult.

How to wear
Wear on the middle finger of the right hand in silver, panchdhatu or platinum (never gold per Saturn's metallurgical incompatibility). Choose a Saturday at sunset on shani amavasya or shani jayanti. Test under your pillow for 3 nights first — discontinue if disturbed sleep or accidents occur. Energise with "Om Sham Shanaischaraya Namah" 108 times facing west.
Frequently asked
Why do you require astrologer consultation before shipping Blue Sapphire?
Neelam is documented in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra as either "instant blessing or instant disaster" — its effects manifest within 24-72 hours and are difficult to reverse. Wearing it during a malefic Saturn dasha or when Saturn rules a maraka/badhaka house can trigger sudden financial loss, accidents, family discord or legal trouble. We therefore require submission of your full birth chart (date, time, place) to our Jyotisha for written approval. The 48-hour consultation is complimentary on this order.
How do I conduct the 3-day pillow test correctly?
Wrap the unset stone in clean white cotton cloth and place under your pillow each night for 3 consecutive nights starting Saturday. Maintain a sleep journal noting dreams, sleep quality, mood and any unusual events. Positive signs: deep sleep, auspicious dreams, sense of stability, minor financial gain. Negative signs: nightmares, insomnia, accidents, sudden conflicts, financial loss. If any negative sign occurs, return the stone immediately under our 7-day Neelam-specific refund policy. Only proceed to setting and wearing after a clear 3-day trial.
What is the substitute stone if Neelam testing is negative?
The recognised upratna substitutes for Blue Sapphire are Amethyst (Jamunia), Iolite (Neeli or Kaka Neeli), and Blue Spinel. Amethyst at 6-8 ct delivers approximately 50 per cent of Neelam's Saturn effect with significantly less volatility and is suitable for most rashis without trial. Iolite at 4-6 ct is closer in vibration to Neelam but still safer. Both must be lab-certified natural and set in silver. Many astrologers prescribe Amethyst as the default starting stone before considering Neelam.
Can Blue Sapphire be returned if it does not suit me?
Yes. We offer a unique 7-day Neelam-specific refund policy: full refund minus ₹500 lab re-certification fee if you experience any of the documented contraindication signs during the 3-day pillow test or first 7 days of wear. Standard ratna policies in the trade are non-returnable, so this is exceptional. The stone must be returned unmounted, with the original lab certificate intact, in our tamper-evident sealed pouch. This policy does not apply once the stone is set in metal.
What is the difference between Ceylon, Kashmir and Burmese blue sapphire?
Kashmir sapphire (Padar-Sumjam) is the most valuable historically — velvety cornflower blue with silk inclusions, but commercially extinct since 1925 and now ₹4-15 lakh per carat for original material. Burmese (Mogok) sapphire is deeper royal blue, currently ₹50,000-2 lakh per carat. Ceylon (Sri Lankan) is medium blue with high transparency, the most astrologically prescribed origin, and ₹8,000-25,000 per carat at investment grade. We stock Ceylon for both efficacy and accessibility. Kashmir and Burmese available on special order with 60-day lead time. ---
