About this piece
Yellow Sapphire, known in Sanskrit as Pukhraj or Guru Ratna, is a yellow-coloured gem variety of the mineral corundum (aluminium oxide, Al2O3) with a Mohs hardness of 9 and a refractive index of 1.762-1.770. This 4.25 carat specimen is sourced from the classical alluvial deposits of Ratnapura, Sri Lanka (Ceylon) — the world's most astrologically preferred Pukhraj origin. Ruled by Brihaspati (Jupiter), it is the primary stone for Dhanu (Sagittarius) and Meen (Pisces) rashis in traditional Vedic recommendation. The stone is certified unheated and untreated by GRS Switzerland, retaining its natural straw-yellow body colour and full planetary energy. Cut as a cushion mixed-brilliant for maximum face-up colour and brilliance, it is set in 22-carat gold per Vedic prescription.

Frequently asked
How do I confirm Yellow Sapphire suits my horoscope before purchase?
Yellow Sapphire is broadly suitable for Dhanu and Meen lagna/rashi natives, and is generally beneficial during Guru Mahadasha-Antardasha. However, if Jupiter is exalted or strongly placed, or rules a maraka house (2nd or 7th from lagna for certain ascendants), it may not be advisable. We recommend a 21-day trial with a 2 ct test stone before investing in a premium piece. Send us your birth details (date, time, place) and our in-house Jyotisha will issue a written compatibility note within 48 hours.
When should I avoid wearing Yellow Sapphire?
Avoid if your horoscope shows Jupiter as a functional malefic (e.g., for Vrishabha or Tula lagnas as 8th/3rd lord), if you are undergoing Shani-Guru anyonyashtaka (mutual 6/8), or during the first 40 days after major surgery. Also remove during Pitru Paksha shraddha karma and on Saturdays evenings if facing Shani sade-sati simultaneously. If you experience persistent abdominal heaviness or sudden weight gain within 21 days of wearing, discontinue and reconsult.
What is the difference between Ceylon and Bangkok yellow sapphire?
Ceylon (Sri Lankan) sapphire is alluvial-mined, typically displays a softer straw-to-canary yellow with high crystal clarity, and is rarely heat-treated. Bangkok (Thai/Cambodian) material is often heated at 1600-1800 degree-C to improve colour, displays a deeper golden-orange tint, and trades at 40-60 per cent the Ceylon price. Astrologically the Brihat Parashara prescribes natural unheated stones — heating disrupts the molecular lattice and is considered to diminish planetary efficacy. We stock Ceylon-only material with GRS or SSEF "no indication of heating" reports.
What is the substitute stone if Pukhraj is out of budget?
The recognised upratna (sub-stone) substitutes for Yellow Sapphire are Yellow Topaz (Sunhela) and Citrine (Sunela). Yellow Topaz at 5-7 ct delivers approximately 60 per cent of Pukhraj's planetary effect at one-tenth the cost, while Citrine at 6-8 ct gives around 40 per cent benefit at one-twentieth. Both must still be lab-certified natural, set in gold or panchdhatu, and energised on Thursday. We offer both as starter stones priced from ₹1,800.
How does ratti differ from carat and which weight is prescribed by astrologers?
One ratti (Indian gem unit) equals approximately 0.91 carat or 0.182 gram. Vedic astrologers prescribe Pukhraj minimum weight equal to your body weight in kilograms divided by 10 — typically yielding a 5-9 ratti (4.5-8.2 ct) requirement for adult wear. Anything below 3 ratti is considered insufficient for planetary remedy. This 4.25 ct piece equals 4.67 ratti, suitable for body weights up to 50 kg. For heavier individuals or stronger remedy intent, we offer larger pieces up to 11 ct. ---
