About this piece
The 12mm Premium Karungali Mala is DivineTatva's collector-grade 108-bead japa in authentic Diospyros ebenum — Indian Ebony, the Tamil "karungali", family Ebenaceae. Each 12mm bead is hand-selected from the densest portion of 60–80-year-old Tamil Nadu heartwood logs (Salem & Madurai cooperative), turned slowly to avoid heat-cracking, and GTL Jaipur density-verified at specific gravity ~1.2 (sinks in water — the definitive Diospyros ebenum authentication test). The 12mm size is preferred by serious sadhakas, temple priests, and senior practitioners — substantial weight grounds Vata, the larger surface holds Saturday energisation longer, and the heartwood character is more visible than in smaller beads. Sacred to Lord Shani and Hanuman, this mala is the premium Tamil remedy for Sade Sati, Shani Dhaiya, and lifetime drishti protection. Saturday Purnima energised with "Om Sham Shanaicharaya Namaha". Heirloom-grade, knotted on black silk.
Specifications
How to wear
Energise on a Saturday Purnima — ideally Shani Pradosh — with 108 "Om Sham Shanaicharaya Namaha". This mala is heavy: wear during seated japa rather than continuously around the neck. Hold in the right hand, thumb and middle finger advancing each bead. Store on the puja altar between sessions, facing the eastern deity.
Frequently asked
Is 12mm too heavy for daily neck wear?
Yes for continuous wear — the 108 × 12mm mass is best used during seated japa, not daytime neckwear. Pair with our 8mm daily-wear mala for continuous protection.
Why is 12mm priced significantly higher?
12mm requires the densest heartwood from the centre of mature 80-year-old logs. Yield per log is much lower than for 6mm or 8mm beads — typically 3–4 collector-grade 12mm beads per 8mm bead's worth of stock.
Water test?
Drop one bead in water — Diospyros ebenum sinks rapidly (SG ~1.2). At 12mm the sink is dramatic. GTL Jaipur certificate confirms density.
Can I pair with rudraksha?
Yes — wear a separate rudraksha mala for Shiva mantras and reserve the 12mm karungali for Shani / Hanuman sadhana.
Care over decades?
Karungali is one of the densest woods on earth — properly stored, it lasts generations. Wipe dry after sweat, avoid chemicals, re-knot every 5–7 years (we offer lifetime re-stringing on this premium tier). ---
